A project signed by architects Mauro Esposti and Mirko Pivato, marking the town's urban renaissance
Como, 7 January 2025 - The Architettura Design Workshop, led by architects Mauro Esposti and Mirko Pivato, is the protagonist in the realisation of a new commercial building commissioned by Iperal, which stands out for its innovative vision and integration of architecture, landscape and art. The project includes an element of particular cultural value: a theatre dedicated to the poetess Alda Merini, a symbol of creativity and the depth of the human soul.
The building, designed and followed in all its phases by the Como-based Architettura Design Workshop, has already been completed and will be officially inaugurated on 11 February, marking not only a new architectural milestone, but also a turning point for the municipality of Vimodrone. This project, in fact, puts an end to an urban planning issue that has marked the area for years, linked to the failure to build the second tower designed by architect Mario Botta. With this new construction, Vimodrone rediscovers an architectural and urban balance, restoring value and functionality to an area that had remained unfinished for decades.
Mayor Dario Veneroni, from the very first stages of the project, enthusiastically welcomed the initiative, immediately taking an active part in its realisation, recognising its cultural and social value for the area.
Architecture and painting: an innovative combination.
A distinctive element of the building is the façade of the auditorium, characterised by a large pictorial image depicting Alda Merini, to whom the municipality of Vimodrone conferred honorary citizenship a few years ago. The work was created by Fabrizio Musa, an internationally renowned artist from Como, whose distinctive style is based on the fusion of painting and architecture.
The pictorial image was taken from a photograph by Giorgio Matticchio, taken for the publisher Alberto Casiraghy, a historical publisher and personal friend of the poetess. This detail adds further artistic and symbolic value to the work, helping to pay homage to the figure of Alda Merini in an authentic and meaningful way.
Active on the art scene for almost thirty years, Musa has exhibited his works in prestigious galleries and institutions, both in Italy and abroad, and his participation in this project represents significant added value. This collaboration, developed in close synergy with the architects Esposti and Pivato of Como, does not end with this intervention, but marks the beginning of a broader conceptual exploration, destined to continue with new artistic installations integrating
integrated into the architecture. The intention is to redefine the role of building façades, transforming them from simple construction elements into unique and unrepeatable works of art.
This project is therefore a pioneering experience, introducing a new dimension to the dialogue between architecture and contemporary art. The result is an architecture that communicates, that becomes an integral part of the city and its cultural fabric, offering a new landmark for the area.
Iperal: a brand that invests in innovation and culture.
The project found a strong supporter in Iperal, represented by its president and owner, Dr. Antonio Tirelli, who believed in the value of this initiative from the very beginning. The realisation of a theatre within a commercial context demonstrates an innovative vision, in which the functionality of the spaces merges with a strong cultural and aesthetic component.
The inauguration of the building, scheduled for 11 February, will be a significant moment to celebrate the urban rebirth of Vimodrone and to kick off a new path of research and experimentation between architecture and art, promoted by the studio Architettura Design Workshop, in the person of architect Esposti and architect Pivato, in collaboration with Fabrizio Musa.
